This will be advanced work for those who are in a spiritual program of recovery.

Act as if.
Consider this as a type of koan: the student is an atheist. At the end of the group meetings, they would gather together for a prayer of benediction. The student is an atheist, stands aside from the group during the benediction. The Master finally tells the student: 'just go along with the joke.'
Go along with the joke... This is not part of the program. This is not found in the text of the program. Yet, as I have explained previously, the single biggest, most long-standing condition of humanity is the con job: bait and switch; shuck and jive; bamboozled; etc.
Fake it until you make it. The con job is not part of the program; Yet, people can be reverse-wired in the head. Figuring-out what is real, true, actual is a huge problem for humanity.
Fooling oneself is the single, biggest side element of humanity, that is the single, most destructive force in Earth. No demon, no devil works on your Will, without your consent. Accept that there's no demons, this is fine. However, you are not excused from directing the Will of the individual towards determining the pursuit of truth. Accept that the promotion of evil is inherent within you, as an average person; this means you have more responsibility to focus your will and intention into the positivity polarity of intention.
Part of the mystery of how it works is that one has to work it for it to work. With humans, there is nothing automatic; except for the slow, steady-state decline into sloth, devolution and dreck. A person can not think their way into better acting. can only act their way into better thinking.
Without the will to want to do better, there is not growth for the human being. Many people can not fake it long enough to actually grow and get better. "Some people can not hold on long enough to make it."
Of myself, I am a damaged being. At the center, the core of who and what I am is a shattered, damaged spirit. There is little expectation of healing and wellness, in this current form.
We can talk about this. Yet, the language itself is a tool. It has the ability to help. Yet, people can talk about all sorts of stuff, rather than address the actual problem.
This is to say little-to-nothing of the people who are truly unable to figure-out what their problem is. Talking is great for running a narrative, or spinning a story; Yet, words may not dig deep enough to do the necessary work.
My Will is broken. My ability to chose is damaged. Given my own choice, I will move to oblivion. I personally don't have a will any longer to want to be here, in Earth-school, at this point. True, I did volunteer to be here, in Earth-school at this time. I have a Contract that I need to complete. I'm grateful for the opportunity to be here. Still, I have no significant will to be here.
I am able to fake it...somewhat. through to love an support of those around me, who reassure me of their love an support.
Fake it till you make it ... Act as if ... Go along with the joke... It's a selfish program ... none of that appears in the literature. None of the above expressions are found in the Text Book of recovery. These come from the "Fellowship" portion of the program.
The Program is best seen as a blueprint for recovery. It gives you to most basic instructions of how to make it through the process. Yet, the program does not work without a fellowship...and this is where things get dicey. The fellowship is where we bring ourselves, our personal issues and problems into the group, to ask for assistance in dealing with impediments to growth. We might look at these are character defects, which get in our way of properly expressing boundries, and connection with a Higher Power.
The program language uses phrases like "rigorous honesty," "thorough and painstaking approach", "genuine humility," "honest self-appraisal", and so on. Nowhere in the program literature are we told that the "program is a selfish one." No where is one told to "fake it"; Yet, instead, we are suggested to be painstakingly honest.
I have described the spiritual program of recovery to be similar to a Mystery school. It may also be other things, but primarily, there's an air of mystery, and magic, to get it to work.
The spiritual pathway of recovery is not a self-help program. "Figure it out" is not a step. Nowhere does the Book tell us this is a selfish program. All of the steps start with the word "we." The program is NOT a selfish one, but there are selfish people running their own program. One needs to be honest about this: it is not a selfish program, but I AM RUNNING a selfish one.
In recovery, you can only speak for yourself, not anyone else. One of our principles is that I can only keep my side of the street clean. Speaking my own truth is a spiritual principle for recovery, and health of the person.
The language of the program is: genuine, honesty, thorough, promptly admitted, emotional balance, rigorous honesty, to mention only a few. "Take what you need, and leave the rest," is NOT found in the literature of spiritual growth.
"Rarely have we seen a person fail, who has thoroughly followed our pathway," IS in the literature of recovery. Rigorous honesty wins the day.
The program of recovery is outlined in 164 pages. It is a plan, or blueprint for recovery. It is simple, but not easy. Being honest with oneself is never easy. One is forced to look at unsavory characteristics, which get in the way of constant contact with a power greater than myself.
The Program of recovery is relatively succinct, concise, streamlined. The program is not so established. There are some regulations regarding the fellowship part, but largely, this is established "off the books," so to speak. The fellowship is like the fluid mortar which goes into building a foundation with stone.
There's no definite rules or regulations of the program; certainly NOT for the Fellowship portion. The Program is succinct, clearly written; but not the fellowship. This is where the "fake it till you make it" philosophy enters the picture. This comes from people who don't want to do the program properly, but are looking for a short-cut, or an easier, softer way.
The tendency to fool myself, or to pull the wool over my own eyes, is one of the oldest conditions of humanity. Fuckery is perhaps the oldest of human pursuits. To "get one over" on a neighbor is the oldest element to living in a sedentary society, with others who do not work as hard as you do.
In order for the fellowship portion to work, for it to be effective, one needs to experience the first miracle: identifying yourself. Without identifying the same thoughts, feelings, actions as anyone else in the group; without identifying, there is no rooting into the program.
Identify, do not compare. Don't compare, repair.
Compare for the addict is to say: "I'm not that bad"; "I'm not like that"; "I never lost my license drunk driving." Without happening of the first miracle, of identification with another member, then there is little hope of further growth into the program. Without a true assessment of my own dishonesty I have no chance for recovery and growth along spiritual lines.
